Edgecombe Health Center by Harborview ranks as largest Edgecombe County nursing home in Q1

During the first quarter of 2026, Edgecombe Health Center by Harborview ranked as the largest nursing home in Edgecombe County, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reports.

The facility offered 159 beds—33 above the county average for the same period—and served an average of 142.5 residents.

The CMS assigned the center an overall rating of 3 out of 5, slightly exceeding the 2.9 average rating for North Carolina nursing homes.

Tarboro Health and Rehabilitation held the position of the county’s second largest facility with 118 beds, while The Lodge at Rocky Mount Health and Rehabilitation followed with 100 beds.

As of the first quarter of 2026, Edgecombe Health Center by Harborview reported no incidents resulting in fines or penalties.

Overall, there were three for-profit nursing homes operating in Edgecombe County, North Carolina.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s population of older adults is rising as numbers for younger age groups fall. From 2020 to 2024, the population of Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, while residents under 18 dropped by 1.7%. “Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
