FOIA Request to Wilson County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025. The request was made by Rocky Mount Today, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In the pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at Rocky Mount Today have submitted a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. ยง132-1. The information sought includes a comprehensive list of all candidates running for the upcoming election. Specifically, we have asked for each candidate’s first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.

Additionally, we have requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address. We believe that access to this public record is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities as journalists.

As a media organization committed to serving the public interest through rigorous reporting and news dissemination, we also believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We await the response from the Wilson County Election Department regarding our request.
