FOIA Request to Wilson County regarding new contracts or amendments on February 1, 2026.
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by Rocky Mount Today to Wilson County on February 1, 2026. The request seeks access to records of new contracts and any amendments to existing contracts that were executed, approved, or became effective during the immediately preceding calendar month. The request was made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. ยง132-1.

The purpose of this request is to gather information of public interest for dissemination to the public. Rocky Mount Today has emphasized its role in gathering and reporting news to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency. As a member of the media, they have requested a fee waiver for accessing these records. Additionally, they are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies in investigating governmental agencies using Freedom of Information laws.
In Wilson County school districts, out of 612 senior students taking the science portion of the ACT in the 2022-23 school year, only 95 students (15.5%) were considered ready for college.
