During the first quarter of 2026, Lodge at Rocky Mount Health and Rehabilitation ranked as the third largest nursing home in Edgecombe County, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The center offered 100 beds, which was 26 fewer than the Edgecombe County average for the period. On average, the facility served 85.1 residents in Q1 2026.

Lodge at Rocky Mount Health and Rehabilitation received an overall CMS rating of 2 out of 5, lower than North Carolina’s statewide nursing home average of 2.9.

Edgecombe Health Center by Harborview led the county during the quarter, providing 159 beds, while Tarboro Health and Rehabilitation followed with 118 beds.

As of Q1 2026, Lodge at Rocky Mount Health and Rehabilitation had paid $31,505 in fines across three incidents and accumulated three penalties.

Edgecombe County, North Carolina, had a total of three for-profit nursing homes.

U.S. Census Bureau data reveals an ongoing increase in the population of older adults and a decrease among younger groups. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older rose by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s older population has grown significantly, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A study released in 2021 found nearly half of Americans in this age range, about 28 million, could require long-term services and support, with projections showing more than one-third might eventually need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
