Danielle Haddock shared insights into her father Danny Gordon’s experience as a resident of the Wilson Rehabilitation and Nursing Center (WRNC), where he has lived for nearly 4.5 years. According to Danielle, her father’s satisfaction with the facility is evident given his tendency to express dissatisfaction if he experiences it.
“My dad is a very grouchy, grumpy man,” Danielle explained. “But they roll with it. I know he is well looked after.”
Danny Gordon, a motorcycle enthusiast and double-amputee, endured multiple severe motorcycle accidents, the last occurring in 2017, resulting in a fractured pelvis. These incidents, coupled with diabetes, necessitated his long-term stay in a nursing home.
Danielle recounted a less favorable stay at another facility before her father found his current place. At WRNC, the staff has become well-acquainted with him, positively impacting his well-being.
“His health has improved since he has been there,” she noted. “He seems to be satisfied there. The communication has been very good. A nursing home is not where anyone wanted him to end up, but it is the safest place for him to be. The staff have really looked after him.”
Living 30 minutes from WRNC, Danielle, who cares for her sister and two sons, appreciates the center’s communication concerning her father’s care. She highlighted the efforts of Physical Therapist Joellen Carroll and other staff members for “encouraging my dad to do things that are hard.”
Danny, despite his inability to ride anymore, retains his passion for motorcycles, proudly displaying his Harley-Davidson-branded prosthetics. Danielle expressed relief at seeing her father at ease.
“His silence is his answer sometimes, and he is coasting along,” Danielle shared. “He’s always been a motorcycle man – rough and tough.”
