Rocky Mount Police Department announces death of K-9 Boone during training

The City of Rocky Mount announced on Apr. 16 that K-9 Boone, a member of the Rocky Mount Police Department, died after a sudden illness during training. The department said Boone had served the community since joining in 2021 and was dedicated to supporting public safety efforts.

K-9 Boone played an important role across several divisions, including the Special Operations Division, Patrol Services Division, and Community Action Team. He was assigned to one handler throughout his tenure with the department.

Boone was certified by the United States Police Canine Association in evidence detection, tracking, and narcotics detection. The city extended condolences to his handler and all members of the police department.

“We extend our sincere condolences to his handler and all members of the Rocky Mount Police Department during this difficult time,” officials said in a statement.
