City of Wilson issued the following announcement on Sept. 18.
Construction will soon begin on the Lake Wilson Park improvements announced earlier this year. During the first phase of construction the parking areas will be cleared and graded to prepare for the new parking areas. Once complete the park will have two paved parking areas, one at the front of the park and an improved lot at the site of the current parking lot.
While this work is underway, beginning during the week of September 15 through spring 2020, both current parking areas will be closed. Limited parking will be available on the other side of the dam. The entrance to the temporary lot is also accessible from Lake Wilson Road and will be marked with signs.
Also closed during construction is the boat ramp, kayak launch and playground. The existing playground will be replaced as part of the project. While the walking trail will be accessible, no entry will be allowed in the construction zone. The walking trail will not create a loop until after construction is complete.
The Wilson City Council voted earlier this year to approve major improvements at the park, including a bathroom facility, improved boat ramp and new boat docks, sidewalks near parking areas, paved parking, and landscaping enhancements.
All aspects of the park will be designed to reflect the natural beauty of the lake and park. Lake Wilson Park is located at 4621 Lake Wilson Road N.
