Nash County public schools Board of Education members decided that the district will start the 2020-2021 academic year with remote learning during a meeting in July.
"Under this plan, all students will experience fully-online instruction," district education officials said in a news release, WRAL reported on July 29. "Learning opportunities will happen remotely and will include recorded and live instructional sessions," a press release from the Nash Public School Board of Education states. "Most of the instruction will be accessed through the use of a technology device."
Following the decision to begin with online learning, the board members also said all students will receive a "district-issued laptop to participate in remote learning,' WRAL reported.
School begins on Aug. 6 in Nash County for NRM Early College and CITI High schools, WRAL reported. The rest of the county's schools will begin instruction on Aug. 17.
The county plans on eventually moving forward to a model that incorporates both online and in-person learning, but the education leaders will be closely watching the COVID-19 situation before advancing to that plan.
