A North Carolina House representative is urging residents to take an online survey to help policymakers collect more data about broadband connectivity.

Rep. Lisa Stone Barnes's (R-Nash) Facebook post comment comes as North Carolina lawmakers and state officials have been taking steps to increase broadband access, particularly in rural communities, and in other locations, especially as more students will learn remotely because of COVID-19.

"A reliable and secure internet connection is crucial for everyone working and learning from home," Barnes said in her July 31 Facebook post.

The information gathered from the survey will provide clear data to guide the investment of funds through the state’s Growing Rural Economies with Access to Technology grant program. Additionally, the survey will give provide data for research and policy recommendations.

Moreover, the data collected will support the strategic targeting of further funding ventures. The North Carolina Department of Information Technology’s Broadband Infrastructure Office and the Friday Institute for Education Innovation, located at North Carolina State University, have teamed up in this collaboration to make rural life more active in the online communities.
