The Rocky Mount Fire Department said that its latest state-required inspection resulted in the emergency service receiving an improved overall rating.
"I am extremely proud of this accomplishment for our department and for the effect it will have on our citizens and business owners," Rocky Mount Fire Chief Corey Mercer said in an Aug. 27 news release.
Department of Insurance and State Fire Marshal Office performed the required inspection.
The Rocky Mount rating suggested it is more prepared to respond and adequately equipped to handle fires in the city, the release said.
North Carolina State law obligates inspections of fire departments serving districts with 100,000 people or less.
"I'd like to congratulate Chief Mercer for the department's performance and for the hard work of all the department members," Commissioner and Fire Marshal Mike Causey said in the release. "The citizens in Rocky Mount should rest easy knowing they have a fine group of firefighters protecting them and their property in case of an emergency."
