Tarboro Parks and Recreation issued the following announcement on July 21.
During Monday's power outage at the EL Roberson Center, we lost power to both our walk in refrigerator and freezer.
Our staff quickly worked to sort product and save what was still safely frozen, however we didn't have enough space on site to store everything. Staff reached out to administration at the sheriff's office and were met with open arms of help. Thank you to the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office for allowing us to borrow some space in their detention facility refrigerator until we were able to get both of our units back in service. Our EL Roberson Center is vital to the seniors of Tarboro and Edgecombe County. We serve hot meals daily, provide activities, and provide a facility for recreation and fellowship with fellow senior citizens. We appreciate the sheriff's office for their assistance in this matter so that we can continue to provide this essential service. If anyone 55 and older is interested in the services we provide at the Roberson Center, please contact Alan Miniard at 252-641-4279 for more details.
