Edgecombe Community College issued the following announcement on Aug. 26.
Nacole Everette, chair of the Health Information Technology program at Edgecombe Community College, has received the 2021 Endowed Faculty Chair Award, which rewards excellence in teaching.
“I am deeply honored by this recognition,” Everette said in accepting the award. “I love teaching, and I especially love teaching at Edgecombe Community College.”
“She is an exceptional instructor who works tirelessly to build her program and to look for better ways to serve students,” said Lynwood Roberson, executive director of the ECC Foundation, in making the presentation.
“Her program is entirely online, but she still finds ways to engage her students, such as online chat sessions and video lectures to help students feel connected.”
Everette has been a member of the ECC faculty for 10 years. In addition to her role as a program chair and instructor, she is a leader at the college and in her profession. In 2019, she received the Excellence in Teaching Award at ECC. She also co-chairs the SACSCOC Quality Enhancement Plan initiative, which is a critical component of the college’s continued accreditation.
In addition, she serves the college on several committees, including the Campus Appeals Committee, which she chairs, and the Distance Learning Committee.
Among other state and national activities in her field, she is president of the North Carolina Health Information Management Association.
Everette holds bachelor of science and master of science degrees from East Carolina University. She also holds a graduate certificate in health informatics from ECU. In addition, she is a Registered Health Information Administrator.
The Endowed Faculty Chair Award is the highest distinction the college can bestow on a member of its faculty. As the chair holder, Everette receives $2,500 and a chair with an engraved brass nameplate.
She was selected by a committee of ECC personnel from a pool of several nominees who submitted a performance portfolio, a philosophy of teaching, and an essay.
Everette is the fourteenth Endowed Faculty Chair Award holder at the college.
