Edgecombe Community College issued the following announcement on Sept. 1.

The Radiography program at Edgecombe Community College has been reaccredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, the national agency for the accreditation of radiography programs.

The program received accreditation for eight years, the maximum award of accreditation.

“The Radiography faculty members are very excited about this achievement and look forward to continued success in offering a quality program,” says Desiree Duncan, program chair of Radiography at ECC.

ECC offers a two-year degree in Radiography. In addition, ECC provides a CT/MRI diploma, CT and MRI certificates, and a Mammography continuing education course for American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) eligible individuals.

Radiography students study image processing, radiographic procedures, physics, pathology, patient care and management, anatomy, and radiobiology, among other topics. Training includes classroom studies and lab practice at ECC as well as clinical rotations to area healthcare facilities.

An ECC degree in Radiography qualifies graduates to take the ARRT national exam for certification and registration as medical radiographers.
