Nash Community College issued the following announcement on Nov. 24.
Henry Barrios is a 12th grader at CITI High School pursuing an Associate in Applied Science degree in Industrial Systems Technology through dual enrollment at Nash Community College. He chose to attend CITI so he could earn his high school diploma and AAS at the same time. After graduation, Henry would like to use his degree to work for a large company like Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant or to open his own electrical business.
“The best part of being a Career and College Promise student,” Henry said, “is that you’re taking college classes for free.” Through Career and College Promise, high school juniors and seniors can earn college credits and employment credentials tuition-free while taking courses in pathways leading to a certificate, diploma, degree, or state or industry-recognized credential.
Career & College Promise pathways offer students rigorous and relevant coursework designed to engage their interests and help them achieve educational and career goals. The courses students take as part of a pathway align closely with the level of work that will be expected in technical careers and post-secondary education.
In his spare time, Henry likes to play soccer and video games. His favorite high school class is Math and his favorite college class is Computer-Integrated Machining. Henry is described by his instructors as being a positive role model for his classmates and a student who always goes the extra mile.
For students interested in challenging themselves academically while also having the opportunity to obtain college credit, the Career and College Promise program at NCC can offer more options than a traditional path from high school into a university or career.
