Wilson County Government issued the following announcement on Dec. 29.
COVID-19 Update from Teresa Ellen, Health Director: "We are seeing a post-holiday surge of the COVID virus in Wilson County. This is not a surprise given the large numbers of gatherings and the high transmissibility of the omicron variant. Get fully vaccinated and boosted. Persons fully vaccinated and boosted have less severe illness if exposed. We continue to see individuals that are not vaccinated suffer from severe illness and poor outcomes. Wear your mask when in an indoor setting and maintain the six feet of distance, when possible, especially if you are unvaccinated. We are in a very different place from a year ago. Let’s not lose sight of this. We have vaccines. They are not new, and they work. One other note, in addition to COVID-19, its important to remember we have cold, flu and other viruses circulating. Let’s remember the basics to stay home if you do not feel well and wash your hands often."
