Celebrate 4th with fireworks, concert

Cityofwilson

Wilsonians can mark our country’s birthday with fireworks and a concert this holiday weekend.

The only local fireworks display this weekend will be hosted by the Wilson Tobs on Saturday, July 2, after their game with the Martinsville Mustangs. The first pitch will be at 6:30 p.m. and the fireworks will follow the game. Ticket info: www.WilsonTobs.com

There will be no fireworks show at the Wilson County Fairgrounds this year. That show was cancelled following a tragic fire in La Grange in June that has impacted many shows across eastern North Carolina.

People who want fireworks on Monday, July 4, can go to Kenly where the Kenly 95 Petro Truckstop will be hosting a show starting at 9 p.m. It’s off Interstate 95’s Exit 106, around 15 miles south of Wilson.

The Carolina Mudcats will have fireworks this year for three straight nights. Post game firework shows on July 1st, July 2nd, and July 3rd. Get your tickets asap as the best seats will go fast: https://www.milb.com/carolina-mudcats/tickets/. Five County Stadium is accessible from Hwy 264 and Highway 39, around 23 miles West of Wilson.

The City of Raleigh’s fireworks show is moving this year to Dix Park. Gates will open at 6 p.m. on Monday and the show will begin at 9:30 p.m. There will be free parking at downtown parking decks and on N.C. State University’s Centennial Campuses, and free shuttles will run from Moore Square and the Centennial Campus before and after the event. More info: raleighnc.gov/fireworks.

Closer to home, the Sunday at the Round House concert series will feature Sons of Zion in concert. The free concert begins at 6 p.m. Sunday on the lawn of the O.N. Freeman Round House and African-American Museum, 1202 E. Nash St. Bring a lawn chair. There will be a food truck on site.

The Wilson Farmers & Artisan Market will operate from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, July 2.

City of Wilson offices will be closed Monday, July 4, in observation of Independence Day. Here’s how the closure affects city services next week:

Environmental Services: Monday’s garbage and recycling routes will be delayed until Tuesday. Tuesday routes will be serviced Wednesday. Environmental services will have no special junk pickups this week for appliances, bulky items, etc.

Customer Service: The customer service office on Nash Street will be closed Saturday, July 2, and Monday, July 4, before reopening on Tuesday, July 5. Other options to pay bills are:

  • Doing so online atwww.WilsonNC.org;
  • Using the automated system at 399-2200; or
  • A kiosk has been added in the first drive-thru lane to provide a contactless payment option that takes cash, check and card payments 24 hours a day. Payments through the kiosk apply to City of Wilson utility and Greenlight customer accounts instantly.
Wilson RIDE: The city’s transit system will operate on Monday. Use the Via app or call 595-5357 to schedule rides.

All emergency services will operate on normal schedules. Utilities will be staffed and ready to respond to outages or other situations; call 399-2424.
