City Council swears in 4 members on June 24, 2022

Cityofwilson

The Wilson City Council has organized for the next two years after four incumbents were recently sworn back into office.

At Council’s June 16 meeting, Caroline F. Quinn, Wilson County’s clerk of court, administered the oath of office to City Council members Derrick Creech, Donald Evans, Tom Fyle and Logan Liles. All four were re-elected in May 2022.

The councilmembers were joined by family members and friends at the front of the chambers. All were given the choice to swear or affirm their intent to uphold national, state and local laws.

Following the installation, council members voted unanimously to keep Councilmember James M. Johnson III as mayor pro tem. That position allows Johnson to fill in for Mayor Carlton Stevens in his absence.

The recent election was delayed from its original date in November 2021 to allow the City Council to redistrict after receiving the 2020 Census population numbers. Councilmembers Fyle, Evans, Liles and Creech represent districts 3, 5, 6 and 7, respectively, and will now serve until December 2025.

The next city election will be for districts 1, 2 and 4, and for the mayorship. Filing for those seats will begin in summer 2023 and the election will be in November 2023. Those terms will be through late 2027.
