FOIA Request Sent to Nash County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Nash County Election Department in North Carolina on February 5, 2025. The request, made by Rocky Mount Today, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.

The specific details requested include the first, middle, and last names of all candidates, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office, and their party affiliation. Additionally, contact information for each candidate was also requested - this includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization committed to providing transparency to the public and holding public institutions accountable, we at Rocky Mount Today believe access to such public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the North Carolina Public Records Law G.S. §132-1.

The Nash County Election Department has yet to respond to this request. We will continue our pursuit of this vital information and keep our readers updated on any developments.
