Dan Jackson, a Wilson County resident, has completed 80 cancer treatments over the past 10 months at Wilson Radiation Oncology. The treatments addressed both prostate cancer and head and neck cancer.
Recently, Jackson marked the end of his treatment by ringing the bell at the oncology center. “I’m very thankful,” Jackson said. “I feel good about what they’ve done. They’ve helped keep me around longer than I expected.”
Jackson, age 63, considered several options for his care. He noted that a family member suggested he seek treatment in Durham but ultimately chose to remain in Wilson County for convenience and trust in local providers. At Wilson Radiation Oncology, he was treated under the care of Dr. Margaret Metts and Dr. Keith Lerro.
“I was satisfied, and I trusted them as people,” Jackson said. “They were great. I can’t see people wanting to take that ride to Durham or Chapel Hill when they have the option to stay here. I trusted Dr. Metts. She’s smart and knows what she’s doing. I trusted the plan she had set up for me. We loved them – all of them were great.”
Jackson is retired and looks forward to his wife Geri joining him in retirement this fall so they can continue their hobbies together, including gardening and riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The couple has four children, sixteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
“We’re doing OK,” Jackson said. “The Lord is on our side.”
