Wilson Medical Center has announced the addition of four new members to its 2025 Board of Directors. The new appointees are Stewart S. Arens Jr., Bishop Myron K. Smith, Dr. Calbee D. Newkirk, and Dr. Sanjay Cherukuri, all of whom have significant experience in business, healthcare, faith, and education.

Interim CEO Lindy White expressed enthusiasm about the appointments: “We are so proud to welcome these members to our Board and know that they will do an outstanding job,” she said. White emphasized their leadership and understanding of community needs as valuable assets for advancing the hospital’s mission.

Stewart S. Arens is currently vice president of Arens-Webb Insurance Agency and holds leadership roles in local educational and athletic organizations. Bishop Myron K. Smith has been senior pastor at Christ Temple of Praise for 28 years and has a background in law enforcement.

Dr. Calbee D. Newkirk is a family medicine physician with certifications from the North Carolina Medical Board and associations with national medical bodies. Dr. Sanjay Cherukuri is a cardiologist specializing in coronary artery disease management and serves as president of the Wilson Medical Center Medical Staff.

White further commented on the importance of strong community hospitals: “I am truly honored to have each serve on our hospital’s Board of Directors.”
