Wilson Medical Center has named its da Vinci xi surgical robot “Surgio” following a collaboration with STEM programs from Wilson County Public Schools and The Greenfield School. This decision was finalized during the 2025 Hospital Week.
Lindy White, CEO of Wilson Medical Center, stated, “Our da Vinci xi surgical robot has been at our facility for nearly 3 years and has assisted surgeons perform approximately 200 surgeries.” She added that the collaboration with local students highlights the availability of high-quality surgical options for residents in Wilson and surrounding areas.
The name “Surgio” was selected as a playful reference to surgery. The medical center is dedicated to providing opportunities for students to explore careers in healthcare.
Dr. Jordan Shealy, a general surgeon, performed the first da Vinci robotic surgery at Wilson Medical Center in December 2022. The technology enables physicians like Dr. George Isaacs to conduct precise and complex procedures through small incisions, potentially reducing recovery times and hospital stays.
Further information about the da Vinci xi can be found on Wilson Medical Center’s website.
