The North Carolina Department of Information Technology recently awarded $818,000 to CloudWyze Inc. for a fixed-wireless deployment in Nash County.

The Growing Rural Economies with Access to Technology program grant is intended to connect 305 households and 14 businesses with wireless, a press release said that Rep. Lisa Stone Barnes (R-Nash) posted to her Facebook page on Aug. 20.

“This is the same service I use to work on my farm and I know what a difference this makes for rural communities,” Barnes posted to her page.

The Nash residents served by the expansion will join a total of 8,017 households and 254 businesses that have benefitted around the state from the grant program, according to the release.

“Since the governor shut down many schools, businesses and workplaces, broadband access has become critical to our rural communities’ ability to work, learn and receive healthcare from home,” Barnes said in the release.
