From March 25, 2023 post.
Warm spring weather will have many of us heading out this weekend to get our Vitamin D fix. Wilson has many parks to check out, but you may not know some parks are about to get major upgrades.
The City of Wilson is currently seeking bids for improvements to 15 neighborhood parks. We will be using federal money secured by former U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield to make improvements at these parks: The improvements will be at Carolina Street Park; Five Points Park; Fleming Stadium playground; Freeman Park; Freeman Roundhouse Museum; Lamm Park; Lane Park; Pender Street Community Center Park; Vera Pope Resource Center; Warren Street Park; Washington Carver Heights Park; Weaver-Bailey Park; and Wedgewood Park Area.
Many parks will be getting new playground equipment like this setup at Lane Park. We will also be improving draining and irrigation, new landscaping and signage, and ADA accessibility. Some sites will add shelters and picnic tables.
We will know more about what's happening where and when soon.
